Green PEA success for IO Electronics May 2015
Poole-based IO Electronics, an electronics assembly and manufacturing business, has joined the Green PEA scheme, and achieved P1 status. The company has also confirmed its commitment to the scheme and declared its intention to progress through the Green PEA stages.
IO Electronics utilise the latest automated manufacturing equipment to provide a total electronic manufacturing solution, from initial design right through to final assembly and test. Services include PCB Assembly, Cable and Harness Assembly, Turnkey Manufacture, Programming Test and Repair. The company operates from Poole, with 12,000 square feet of electronic manufacturing and administration space.
The Green Positive Environmental Action scheme, Green PEA for short, is a certification scheme. It provides companies and other organisations with a simple review of their energy costs, and then offers recommendations to help them save money on their energy usage. Joining the scheme initially is completely free, with organisations just requiring a written commitment from their senior management team. They then have the option of working through the different scheme levels at their convenience.
The scheme began in Poole in 2013 and was recently also launched in Christchurch & East Dorset. The scheme also includes an innovative funding option which enables organisations to benefit from a grant to install green technologies.
Paul Cooling, Chairman of the Green PEA company, commented:
"It is fantastic to have a local successful company such as IO Electronics join Green PEA and show such commitment to using the scheme to their advantage. It is not only beneficial for IO Electronics, but also for the entire Borough of Poole, as their progression will ensure they reduce their carbon emissions".
Andrew Cridland, General Manager of IO Electronics, said:
"We are delighted to become Green PEA members and receive our first certificate. We intend to address many of the green recommendations highlighted in our survey, which should have a positive effect on our emissions and our financial position".
If you are a business from Poole, Christchurch or East Dorset and are interested in joining the Green PEA scheme please contact us on tel: 01202 633346, by email: or though the website

IO Electronics purchases latest AOI technology October 2012
IO Electronics have just invested in a fully automated optical inspection machine. The A.O.I. machine will further improve accuracy and efficiency underlining our commitment to provide high quality products. The machine was supplied by local company Europlacer and IO Electronics are the first company in the UK to invest in this particular brand.

This technology inspects the 3D shape of the soldering. It enhances the differences between defects and the normal variation of the process. The results are no-escapes and extremely low false alarm-rate besides other advantages like no sensitivity to warp boards, shadowing and more.

This cutting edge technology use the most advanced optics and lighting system to create the 3D picture containing all the relevant information on the topographic structure while it is 100 percent free from shadowing and blind spots.

IO Electronics welcome ‘Nick Old’ (Operations Manager) to our team. August 2012
I recently joined IO Electronics as an Operations Manager after working 20 years in an Aerospace business in various management roles. I bring to the company a wealth of knowledge across many areas. My vision is to enhance the overall reputation of the company.

The key points:
  • Measure the process rather than the people behind the process.
  • Improve the current skills of workers.
  • Encourage people to learn new skills to prepare for future changes and challenges.
  • Build skills to make our workforce more adaptable to change, and better able to find and achieve improvements.
  • Improve our overall organization by having each person take a step toward quality.
  • Embrace quality throughout the organisation.
  • Implementation of a new ERP system.
The business will plan for quality in the long-term; we will resist reacting with short-term solutions, our philosophy has to be do it right do it once - find better ways of doing things.

We must embrace quality throughout the organisation; this will be brought about by the implementation of an "Approved Operators" process whereby the ownership sits with the operator.

The business depends solely on inspection, inspections are costly and unreliable - and they merely find a lack of quality, we will build quality into the process from start to finish. We will work not only towards finding out what we did wrong we must eliminate wrong altogether.

The business has to have a quality vision and not just sit back and live in the dark ages of inspection. We must create and implement a quality vision for the future growth of the company; we must lead the way and not manage the situation as it happens.

Quality consistency relies heavily on standardisation of working practices, all working practices will be examined and the necessary processes implemented.

We will introduce a skill`s matrix as we need to train for consistency across all areas, build a foundation of knowledge.

We need to allow workers to understand the "Big Picture" and use open and honest communication.

We must support and encourage staff to learn from one another, and provide a culture and environment for effective team work; the leader of the area must act as a coach and not merely as a policeman.

The company must look at how the process is carried out, not just numerical targets; production targets can encourage high output and low quality.

The road will be long, we will not take any diversions or short cuts, and my promise to our customers is we will not run out of gas on the way, we will succeed.

Nick Old

Increasing our Capacity May 2012
IO Electronics are excited to announce that we are increasing our capacity by adding a further 3,000 sq. ft. to our existing buildings, increasing our overall capacity to 15,000sq ft. of manufacturing space. This is a direct result of the increased demands by our customers and their growing confidence in the market. The additional space will house our wiring department enabling us to streamline our cable harness facility by creating a dedicated specialist manufacturing team.
This will allow for considerable expansion within our existing premises thus enabling us to continue to invest in additional automated equipment and the latest manufacturing technology.
Andrew Cridland (IOE MD) said "The opening of a new building compliments our commitment to producing the highest quality PCB and cable assemblies whilst highlighting our desire to ensure every product manufactured is given the utmost attention to detail".
The resulting benefits to our customers include increased capacity and enhanced inspection systems, which will result in improved on-time-delivery performance and tighter quality controls.
